Abstract: This piece of research deploys Queer Methods and Methodologies to critically study the impact of Family Jurisprudence on the queer lives by qualitatively evaluating their lived experiences in India. It focuses on the following two themes newline1. Studying the lived experiences of the queer in India (especially, on matters of their gender and sexuality) with regard to the private/public heteronormative structures of the social and the legal (e.g., family, neighbourhoods, schools, workspaces, police, state, financial institutions, and the courts); and, newline2. Studying the nature of polymorphous chosen relationalities formed, sustained and broken by the queer in their lives, that are located outside the heteronormative kinship. newlineThe fieldwork involved in-depth interviews with twenty-nine participants who identify as LGBTQI Plus and, who are based in semi-urban/urban locations across India. The sample size is deliberately kept diverse in terms of class, age, gender, education, location, marital/relationship status so that the study reflects a wide spectrum of queer realities. The research analyses these queer narratives by ethnographically re-reading the Constitution of India as a tool of transformative justice to prescribe a working legal model for doing queer relationships. newline newline
