Abstract: Anti-inflammatory activity of medicated oils modified medicated Balms and ointments are investigated in mammalian system using acute and chronic models. The acute and chronic anti inflammatory potential of the medicated oils balms and ointments has been determined by using carageenan induced acute paw edema assay and formalin induced chronic inflammatory assay in BALB/c mice. Diclofenac gel was served as the standard drug. The anti inflammatory activity was estimated volumetrically by measuring the mean in right hind paw volume of the mice with the help of a vernier caliper at different time intervals. Classically prepared medicated oils modified medicated balms and ointments are externally applied over the right hind paw. Experimental data demonstrated that in acute Inflammation group 3, Ksheerabala tailam 89.6% medicated oil and group4 Ksheerabala tailam based balm 86% modified balm and in chronic inflammation group 2 Karpasasthyaditailam based balm 34% and group 6 Dhanwantharam tailam based balm 26% modified balms possess remarkable anti-inflammatory activity. newline
