Abstract: newline In machining system different wastes are produced along with the required product. These wastes have bad effect on environment and also cause rapid depletion of natural resources. For sustainable manufacturing these are required to be minimized as it minimizes the use of resources and pollution to environment. There are different methods to reduce this waste. One method is selection of process parameters on certain criteria basis. This method is cheap and easily implementable. Lot of work has been done for selection of parameters using single objective criteria like minimum cost, maximum production rate and maximum profit rate along with the technical requirement like good surface finish etc. But due to rapid industrialization to cater the demand of large population there is rapid depletion of natural resources and pollution in the environment .But industrialization cannot be stopped so an environmental friendly approach should be adopted .Use of electrical energy in machining depletes coal etc required for production of electricity and also pollutes the environment due to burning of coal etc.So energy conservation is required to be considered in machining. Energy consumption is now a days also being used along with other three criteria. These criteria are being used at present singly. As per the importance of criteria one of them is selected and optimization of process parameters is done with single objective function. In doing so the other criteria are not considered. But today along with cost, production rate it is also necessary to consider the environmental impact so energy consumption is also to be considered. Energy consumption can also be used singly. With more than one criterion multiobjective optimization of the process parameters can be used. If required different weightages can also be considered. This has not been much researched.
