Abstract: The present work focus on development of partially homogenous charge compression newlineignition (PCCI) engine fueled with ethanol and diesel. Conventional diesel newlinecombustion could be considered to be replaced by PCCI or partial homogenous newlinecharge compression ignition (HCCI) combustion. PCCI is the concept of newlinehomogeneous charge diesel combustion using port/manifold injection of premixed newlinefuel with high octane number. This is a compromise between HCCI and compression newlineignition direct injection (CIDI), since enormous amount of effort has been envisaged newlinefor HCCI combustion at higher load and speed. Moreover, it is very difficult to newlinecontrol the ignition timing at elevated loads (Yao and Zhaolei Liu 2009). Successful newlineconversion of CIDI engine into PCCI engine is used to study combustion newlinecharacteristics, emissions and performance at three different engine loads using diesel newlineand ethanol as a fuels. It differs from conventional CIDI in that it can further enhance newlinefuel-air mixing prior to combustion to reduce the peak temperature of combustion and newlinein turn reduces emissions without significantly affecting thermal performance. Thus, newlinemodified mode of combustion is successfully used to reduce NOx and smoke newlineemissions simultaneously. newline
